Nancy Who?

Most of my blog entries are about stuff I do. So this post is for all of the little red dots on my cluster map who have no idea who I am. It's also for the regulars who might not know all my nitty gritty. Maybe you don't even want to know! It's also for me, to remind myself of who I am. I sometimes forget. Of course, I am more than this list. These are just the things that come to mind quickly.

Well, that's enough for today's therapy session. Maybe you learned something new.

Merry Christmas

This year, my sister and her family (hubby and 2 kids) are going to Hong Kong for 6 weeks, and they leave next week. They'll be gone over Christmas. It'll be the first Christmas EVER I've had without my sister.

So my parents decided "Let's have Christmas before they go!".

They didn't just mean a gift exchange either. They meant a FULL Christmas! The works!

I thought it was a little too much when their Christmas lights went up at the beginning of November. Following that, their Christmas tree went up and was decorated on the Rememberance Day long weekend.

But then, I started to get into it! I spent a day off decorating a gingerbread house and doing Christmas crafts with my niece and nephew. I took 2 Christmas card making classes, and they're already addressed and ready to go! I had to Christmas shop for them too, but why not Christmas shop for everyone on my list at the same time? I spent Friday doing my Christmas baking with my mom and sister, so if we ration properly, I won't have to make any more (not likely).

And what the hey, why don't we put up OUR Christmas tree too? It just wouldn't feel like a genuine Christmas without it! I am actually surprised that Colin suggested this. His birthday is on Dec 8, and he usually doesn't want to put the tree up until after that. Nevertheless, Colin and I did just that! We decorated our tree this week, following our traditions: Nancy wore a headband with reindeer antlers, we drank hot chocolate, put on a Christmas CD, and we talked about the ornaments and the special meaning behind each one of them.

Since today is Christmas Eve, I spent the morning wrapping Christmas gifts. So I wrapped all the ones I've bought... even the ones that won't be given until the REAL Christmas.

I could definately get used to having Christmas early! My shopping is almost done (in UNCROWDED malls with PARKING SPACES, I might add!), my wrapping is nearly done, I have baked my goodies, and my cards are ready. Our Bible Study started a Christmas study this past week too, which shows the actual locations in the story of Jesus' birth. The perfect thing to get us thinking about the "reason for the season". No one knows exactly when Jesus was born anyways, so there's a possibility that we're celebrating on His real birthday!

So, tomorrow is the big turkey day! And SNOW is in the forecast! I happened to see a few flakes today, so we might very well have a White Christmas!!!

Merry Christmas everyone!

Contagious Joy

I had the opportunities to go the "Contagious Joy" Women Of Faith conference last weekend. I was hoping for some laughs, spiritual renewal, fun and girl bonding, and I got all of that and more!

The speakers were amazing. They shared intimate stories of their lives, how God has helped them in their not-so-great moments in life, and how He can help YOU. They had the ability to make your stomach ache due to laughter, and make you cry like this storm we're having (at least it made ME cry), while still keeping 100% on topic. How else could I sit through 12 hours without getting bored?

The musicians are definitely gifted! Nichole Nordeman's music cut through the airy fairy stuff that Christian music is sometimes made of, and dug right down to meaningful messages. Avalon was also wonderful!

I would definitely recommend this conference to any woman. It wasn't a "girl power" thing (which I was SOOOO glad about). And there were only one or two guy jokes! Eliminating a gender just cuts away a certain amount of distraction!

So next year it's in Seattle. Let's get a bus together and make a weekend out of it, ladies!

The Hobbit and the Pirate

We went to a Halloween Party last night. The theme was "Heroes and Hollywood", and everyone was to dress up accordingly.

I wanted to be a hobitt. The lady hobbits look boring, and they're not heroes, so I decided to be Frodo Baggins! Now THERE'S a hero! I guess that made me a cross-dressing hobbit. Colin wanted to be Captain Jack Sparrow, since he secretly wishes he was a pirate, and loves to say "AAARRRrrr!!!".

So off to Value Village we went, and this is what we came up with:

"Cute little hobbitssesss...
Give me the precioussss
We wantsss it!
We NEEDSSssss it!"

"AAAARRrrrr! Give me the best dressed prize or I'll send you down to Davy Jones locker!"

Colin DID win the costume contest! Ah, yes! Fun times rooting through the VV Botique, and pillaging the depths of my mom's scrap fabric!
