Lost in LOST

Colin and I have got somewhat addicted to LOST. Somewhat addicted? Who am I kidding? We need to start going to a support group.

A friend gave me a good analogy. "There are people who eat all their candy all at once, and then there's people who eat it slowly".

We are definitely the "eat it all at once" people.

The same friend lent us Season 1 of LOST 2 Fridays ago. We've been wanting to see it because a lot of our friends are really into it. And goodness knows, we need another TV show to watch since The Office has been delayed due to the writers strike. Because of the dental problems I was going through, I haven't been able to get out and do much...so why not watch LOST?

And watch LOST is exactly what we did. That's ALL we did. In one week, we watched the entire first season, which I'm reading now, was 1068 minutes. That doesn't include the time it spent on pause while Nathan needed our attention.

We got Season 2 from her. We're now on episode 15. I am actually starting to dream about it (who could blame me, really). I get suspicious of strangers I see...they may be "others". And I probably wouldn't be surprised if I saw a big tree get blown right out of the ground.

One of the times I was at the dentist last week I heard the lady in the chair next to me talking about "Jack on the island with a dog getting chased by cannibals". I freaked out and covered my ears because I didn't want to hear any spoilers! Turns out they were talking about Pirates of the Caribbean. I need help.

So last night I wanted a break from it. Colin asked a few times if we could watch "just one episode". But I refused. One episode lead to another which leads to another. Then it's 11:00 and you feel bad and somewhat pathetic as you've wasted your entire evening, yet again.

The funny thing is that I don't even really like the story line. Multiple times per episode I say, "AS IF" as it is so far-fetched. But I guess the mystery of it all is what brings me back. Uh oh, I feel a season 2 spoiler coming on...

I hear an alarm! I must type 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42.

Now I have 108 minutes of spare time.

Dental Update

So, last time I mentioned my dental problems was in the wee hours of Monday morning last week. Oh my, has it been an ordeal since then.

I did go to the dentist on Monday and it turns out I had an infection in the pulp/roots of my tooth. So they did an "open and drain" procedure (sounds yummy) to clean it out. Then the bad news. I have to get a root canal on Saturday. I was in so much pain after this "open and drain" that Colin had to come home from work to look after Nate and I. I spent about an hour rocking back and forth on my porch while my meds started to kick in.

I got 2 full nights of sleep after that and then on Wed night I was back to only a few hours of sleep due to intense pain so I went BACK to the dentist on Thursday. They did another open and drain and gave me this freezing that lasts for 8 hours. That was nice. But when it came out, the pain was just as bad as before and I slept only a couple of hours Thursday night.

So on Friday, guess where I went? The dentist. Since I was getting a root canal the next day, they froze my tooth to oblivion to take away the pain until Saturday morning, when I was coming in for my root canal.

Saturday, I was in the chair for 2.5 hours, and the root canal could not be finished. I had been frozen so much this past week that my body was starting to fight off the freezing, and it was becoming ineffective. So every time he drilled a hole in my tooth, he injected more freezing, but I still felt it all. He had to stop because I was in tears and couldn't handle any more. He said that in his career so far he's never seen such a sensitive tooth before.

Or maybe he hasn't seen such a wussy patient before...

So now I have to wait a week until my body can hopefully accept freezing once again and then get the root canal finished. But thank God it doesn't hurt anymore. Now I can just focus on getting rid of this cold before then.

Oh, and my dentists Ryan and Candice (brother/sister-in-law team) are the best! I'd recommend them to anyone. They were so accommodating and managed to fit me into 5 emergency appointments in 8 days.

Roast Camel Recipe

I received a "Mini Moments for Mothers" book today. Thought I'd share part of one entry. This is an actual recipe:

ROAST CAMEL RECIPE

To prepare this delicacy, first take 100 gutted Mediterranean trout and stuff them with 200 hard boiled eggs, then stuff the trout into 50 cooked chickens. The chickens are then placed in the body cavity of a sheep and the sheep into the carcass of a camel. Roast over a charcoal fire until done.
Serves about 300 guests.

I tried to find a photo online, but couldn't find one. I did find some simple camel roast photos but it looked gross. Thought I'd spare you.

This recipe is reminiscent of the "Turducken" recipe shared by "Vikings on the West Coast" before its unfortunate demise :-(

Happy cooking, and invite me when it's done.

Pam?

To any "The Office" fans out there (US version), I thought I'd share my Pam impression:
